Yes I can go on and on about how after a day at work I came home and made not one but 2 dinners tonight. One was eaten tonight and the other will be consumed tomorrow. Oh how I love driving home knowing dinner just has to be heated up! I can continue with how exhausted I am but still managed to get some work done that I won’t have to worry doing at the office tomorrow. And here I sit determined to write for the day and it has to be a positive post to boot! Finding the positive today is not a problem for me. I pushed myself to complete tasks that I really wanted done, and I did it! It feels wonderful to complete. I just love that word..let’s say it together…complete. Finished, finito, done….complete. I didn’t think I could…but I did. In the movie Jerry Maguire, Tom Cruise’s character tells Dorothy played by Renee Zelwiger that she completes him. The exact phrase was “you complete me”. Well, after feeling pretty good that I completed what I wanted to tonight I have to say, “I complete me”.

Just showin up to whine

The reason I started this blog was so I could have a reason to write everyday, which I started doing but as I began reading my posts it occurred to me that I wasn’t writing, what I was doing was whining. I was reading like many other blogs out there. I was just complaining. Starting now my next posts are going to focus on the positives of just showin up. I am sure there are days where I will have to reach down and dig far but at the end of the day no matter how bad the day may seem, I will find the positive and embrace it. I am currently reading a book called Buddha’s Brain and it explains that our brains are naturally wired to focus on the negative. It’s a survival tool. Animals, our ancestors need to be on guard at all times for their survival. If they had nothing to worry about then they would let their guard down and the result could be deadly. The book goes on to say that we can rewire our brains by focusing on the positive events in life. Doing this will change the way our brain responds to situations. It makes perfect sense and is something that I am willing to try. Our society is definitely getting too negative and I do not one to get swallowed up in that. So let the rewiring begin! I’m already beginning to feel a smile coming on.

Omega 3 patrol

I was reading an online article today at work that disturbed me so much that I am actually still thinking about it. It seems the writer of this article feels we should pump up our US troops with Omega 3 supplements because it will help them with such ailments as depression and post traumatic stress disorder. What bothered me about the article was the way the writer insisted we do this now and why is the military waiting. I have never commented on an article but today I had to. Gee all this showin up is having some kind of effect of me! Basically I responded by saying how can we suggest giving out these supplements when we are not looking at the whole nutritional picture. What kind of diet are our soldiers following? Is it too high in sugar? Too low in saturated fats? All I know is my sister was shipping all of her leftover halloween candy to Iraq. Apparently there were these candy drives to get people to donate their unused halloween candy. I remember seeing the large shopping bag and saying oh great..just what our soldiers need..to be eating candy all day only to have their blood sugar levels crashing soon after. I’m not saying soldiers shouldn’t have candy…heck if I was on the front line you can bet I would have a snickers bar on me at all times…but my point is…are we looking at the whole nutritional picture? What are our soldiers eating? Instead of pumping them up with supplements this is the question we need to ask first.

Why…oh why can’t I remember the feeling of eating fried food and too much of it. I thought tonight I would have mussels steamed in garlic and white wine but then I saw the side…french fries. How could I not have mussels with french fries? When in Belgium…but I wasn’t in Belgium…I was at a local French Bistro and I just couldn’t resist. So now I am paying the price. I am trying to remember every iota of how my body is feeling right now…full, bloated, stuffed…not good. I must be able to recall these feelings next time I get the urge to order french fries. But once my stomach goes down and I am able to button the top button on my jeans again I know what’s going to happen the next time I order mussels….I did say fries on the side right?

Bad Girl you such a dirty bad girl beep beep

It never occurred to me how much I am drawn to bad girls. It’s no surprise to anyone that reality shows are the dominant genre of television today. But if you take a good look at most of the “stars” of these shows they are mainly bad girls…really bad girls. And you know what? I am tuning in to watch. What is it about these bad girls? Growing up we were read fairy tale stories and at least I never identified with the wicked witch. Never wanted to be like her…was actually quite terrified of her. But these women on today’s reality shows are no different. They are wicked, they are successful, they are bad….and we can’t get enough of them! Why is that? I guess deep down we all wouldn’t mind playing wicked witch for a day. Speak what’s on our minds, single out those we can’t stand and not care what anybody thinks about our actions. How liberating! No wonder we identify with these woman. After watching a show or two okay three starring these Queen bees I did find myself thinking why can’t nice people be depicted as successful? I’m sure there are plenty of woman out there who say thank you to their assistants and even think of thoughtful gifts to give…just because. But those woman are not on television..it’s the bad girls that are the stars…the dirty bad girls…and it is we who continue to watch.

When enough isn’t enough..or is it?

I was reading a magazine tonight and I came across an ad that said you have 1440 minutes in a day..just give us 10. I kept staring at the number 1440. Is that really how many minutes we have in a day? But what was most disturbing to me was my reaction to this question….1440 is that all? It use to be the old saying there are not enough hours in the day and now here I am saying there are not enough minutes in the day! I started to think why this was…how busy could I be that I need more time in a day…the reality is I need more minutes because I waste so many. How many minutes are wasted at work by talking nonsense with a coworker..most likely about another coworker. How many hours at night am I surfing the web only to realize that 45 minutes just passed and I can’t account for any of that time. It’s not that we don’t have enough time in the day…it’s that we are wasting precious minutes away. Tomorrow I will make a point to be more mindful of my time. What will I do with all those gained minutes? <>…probably something mindless…

Just showin up to write

So I did it! I am showin up to write. About what you may wonder. Well..see that’s the thing. There is no set plan here…no outlines, no story, no plots…just me and my keyboard…letting my fingers do the walking if you will. But I do know this…if I just show up..be it for work, family, husband…if I can just do that everyday..than I will have something to write about. Why is this so important? Well…I really love to write…but I don’t do it enough..in fact I don’t do it at all…but if I can have a reason to write everyday…well..that will be enough for me. Just knowing that I showed up is all that matters.
